Recovery and Expansion Amid Crisis
In 2019, as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic grew and more children lost access to education, the foundation began gradually housing 4 girls and 11 boys, while others remained in external care. A management restructuring took place, along with renewed efforts to meet licensing requirements.
Additional improvements included garden landscaping, children's bedrooms, and a new borehole well.
In 2020, the main hall was partitioned to create girls' dormitories, and further improvements were made to existing facilities such as the office, kitchen, children's rooms, and main hall.
Leadership and Continued Development
In 2014, a new chairman was elected — Mr. Juliar. At that time, 36 children were registered with the foundation, but due to limited facilities, they continued living with their families while receiving full support from the foundation.
By 2015, the entire ground floor was completed, and efforts were made to equip the building with necessary facilities to fulfill the requirements for obtaining an official operating license from the Department of Social Affairs and Denpasar city authorities.
In March 2015, the orphanage operations were temporarily paused to focus on fundraising efforts.
Initial Construction Phase
In 2010, construction began with the main hall building, initially designed as a two-story multi-purpose hall. However, due to budget constraints, construction of the second floor was paused.
In 2012, further development continued with the gradual construction of an office, kitchen, and initial children's dormitory.
Land Acquisition through Waqf
With the help of Sony Hasan, the foundation acquired a plot of land measuring 8.30 are in the Gunung Wilis area. The land was purchased in installments starting in 1998, and a perimeter fence was built.
In 2002, the land was fully paid off through a waqf (endowment) by Haji Moch. Sarnam, and formally endowed for public benefit. The waqf was accepted by Fadillah Akbar and Mohammad Sarnam, and entrusted to caretakers (nadzir): Pak Djalil, H. Zed Muhammad, H. Anis Awad, and Sony Hasan.
Since 2002, the land has been officially recognized as waqf property.
Early Beginnings
In 1985, a small prayer room (mushola) was established in the Bukit Tunggal area as a local place of worship. As the community grew, the facility became a central hub for religious activities.
In response to this development, Al Hikmah Foundation was officially established in 1989 by several community leaders: Fadillah Akbar, Z. Muhammad, Noer Djalil, and H. Sarnam. They began planning to purchase land for future development.
